, these are reports from two major newspapers today, saying that this u.s. launches these drone attacks against al qaeda targets from that particular base. i want to bring in two folks here at the pentagon chris lawrence also michael holmes from cnn international. chris, it's not a total surprise that this was there in saudi arabia, but certainly it was not something that they officially wanted to reveal. why are they doing it now? >> that's the big question, suzanne, why did this come out? we reported two years ago from our sources u.s. officials were telling us the cia was building an airstrip in the a arabian peninsula. it was hinted it would possibly be in saudi arabia. but we never had any sort of agreement to withhold that. we simply reported it was being built in the arabian peninsula. others entered an agreement with the white house to hold back the exact location. why that is coming out now? that's what we are trying to figure out. it's certainly extremely provocative. you couldn't pick probably a more provocative place in the islamic world to have u.s. strikes originating from saudi arab

to the u.s. embassy yesterday. the bomb killed a turkish security guard. alabama's dade county sheriff tells his team has been in constant communication with the man holding a 5-year-old boy hostage in an underground bunker, the man identified as jim dykes allowed police to send down coloring books, crayons and medication to the boy. he killed the bus driver before taking the boy hostage. a murderer is back behind bars after walking out of the jail in chicago. he was on the run for three days before he was captured. he was serving a 60-year murder sentence in an in prison when he was transferred to chicago to face a drug charge. the charge was dropped and he was supposed to return to indiana to serve out the rest of the sentence. but instead, he was let go. a follower of charles manson, may be released from prison. his name is bruce davis, he was sent to prison for his role in the manson family killing. parole was recommended for davis, but now it's up to jerry brown to give final approval. brown has 30 days to decide. >>> the usual roar of subway trains in new york, replaced by the so

, according to the u.s. coast guard they're probably less than 50 miles away from mobile right now. that might sound pretty close, but it's probably going to feel like an eternity before they get here. there was a flurry of activity last night with helicopters delivering new supplies to the ship and some new generators, so that sort of implies that they might have some means to have more electricity on board and everyone to have perhaps more food and more water before they get here. but once they do arrive here, that's when things are going to start moving relatively quickly for the 3100 passengers on board. here the plans have already been made to have buses waiting for them to take them back to their cars in galveston, texas, so they can drive right home tonight if they want to or they can take them to a hotel where you can bet there will be plenty of people anxious to get to that first hot shower they have had in quite some time. you think about this, soledad, this ship was supposed to arrive in galveston, texas, on sunday. they're now 500 miles off course and five days overdue. >> or they
